About WOWpod

WOWpod was born of the idea that, as people move through their life, they develop wisdom, defined by the online Oxford Learner's Dictionary as being "the ability to make sensible decisions and give good advice because of the experience and knowledge that you have".

Those in prominent positions - politicians, media personalities, etc - usually have a channel through which they can impart their wisdom to the masses.

But what about the real people - the grandparents, the parents, the business people, the people who live quiet lives in your community? Surely, there is a massive untapped source of what we might describe as "the people's wisdom".

So that's why we established WOWpod - to find and share the people's wisdom.

What is WOWpod?

WOWpod is a podcast - in fact, the name is the shortened version of The Words Of Wisdom Podcast. The podcast will be a collection of conversations with a range of people - some well-known, others not so much. Each conversation will go for around 15-20 minutes and will follow a similar format:

  • A few minutes introducing our guest - where they were born, what they do for a living, etc.
  • A discussion based on three to five statements of wisdom introduced by our guest.
  • Some fast fact questions which we'll ask each of our guests - favourite holiday destination, favourite eatery, etc.

We don't think that we will change the world by presenting these words of wisdom in each episode but you just never know what you might learn by listening ...

About our host

Neil Butler is the founder and Managing Director of Untypical. He has been a resident of the Geelong region since 2015, having spent most of his life based in Melbourne.

Apart from his "day job", Neil has been involved in community radio and online broadcasting since 2007. During that time, he has seen a significant shift in broadcasting from traditional radio programming, where the content provider determines what the listener hears, to the strong preference listeners have towards the on-demand, subject-specific concept of podcasting. Neil has previously published The Untypical Podcast and The Geebiz Podcast and continues to present the locally focused sports podcast, 2 Blokes Chatting.

Bringing together his great passion for what he describes as "the best music of the past 70 years" and Australian Rules football, Neil established a web-based radio station - goRadio.Live - in 2018. Throughout the football season, Neil and his team of commentators present goFooty.Live, featuring live coverage of VFL and VFLW games featuring the Geelong Cats. When there is no football to be covered, you can tune to goRadio.Live for a continuous stream of great music, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
